Character House Online Features: Friend Visits Explained
Character House advertises visiting friends online and is tagged for online interactivity, but the store still lists it as single-player. Here is what is confirmed.
Character House is a desktop application first, and the online side of it is a feature the store page advertises rather than one the demo currently demonstrates. The description ends with “visit friends online”, and Steam tags the game as containing online interactivity. The same store page lists the game as single-player.
What the store page actually says
Two separate fields on the same official page point in slightly different directions:
- The description closes with the promise that you can shape your companion’s personality and visit friends online.
- The feature row lists Single-player, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing, with no co-op or multiplayer tag.
Both statements come from the same page, and the developer has not explained how the friend-visit feature relates to the single-player listing. This wiki reports both rather than picking one.
Why it is not an online browser game
People searching for an “online” version of this game usually mean one of two things: a web build they can open in a tab, or a multiplayer game they can play with someone else.
For the first reading, the answer is a firm no. The app installs through Steam, and the character is drawn on top of your own desktop. There is no browser build and no mobile build.
For the second reading, the honest answer is that the online component is described as visiting, not as playing together. Nothing on the store page suggests shared sessions, co-op objectives or a shared world.
What the demo currently shows
The demo build has no visible friend-visit entry in the character menu. The right-click controls cover the character’s behaviour, its size, the monitor it lives on, crafting and dressing up. There is no invite, visit or friend-list option among them.
That is not proof the feature is absent, because the demo is an early build and the developer may be holding the feature back for release. It does mean you should not install the demo expecting to visit anyone.
What players are asking for instead
The Steam discussion board contains feature requests rather than bug reports on this topic:
- A character sharing system, so players can pass a finished character to someone else.
- More character slots, so a player can keep a larger cast.
- Characters that approach each other and interact without being placed by hand.
All three are player wishes. None of them are announced features.
How to track when this ships
The two places that will show it first are the store page’s feature and content-description rows, and the official update posts. A change from single-player to a multiplayer tag would be visible immediately in the feature row.
If a friend-visit feature arrives, it will also be described in the release notes, and this page will be updated from those notes rather than from speculation.
