Every review of Character House that exists today is a review of the free demo. At the end of September 2026 the demo page shows a Very Positive rating with more than 180 reviews, while the main game’s page shows no user reviews at all. So this is a verdict on a work in progress, not on a finished game.

The review count moves quickly, so read the store page itself for the current figure. What matters more is the shape of the feedback, which has been consistent across dozens of reviews.

What players keep praising

Four themes come up again and again.

The customisation depth. A reviewer with twenty hours called the concept very promising, and another described the character customisation as super expansive for a demo. A third said the game fulfils the dream of original-character creators.

The company without the obligation. The most-liked review puts it well: the character walks around on its own and stares at you while you work, so you do not feel alone but you can still be alone. That framing appears in several reviews from people who leave it running all day.

The idle structure. One reviewer said they like idles and found this one promising, describing how characters walk around, sit at a desk and type along with you, earn the purple currency, and talk to each other when placed together.

The developer’s responsiveness. A reviewer rewrote their review after the developer patched an issue they had reported within a day, and said the game was back in their good graces because of how earnestly the team works.

What players keep complaining about

English localisation. A reviewer with seven hours said the English translation could use more work, and another with over forty hours called the translation quirky and imperfect. It is the single most repeated criticism and it does not affect the core loop.

Hairstyles. One detailed review said the hairstyles are very anime-styled and that curls, braids and locs are missing, with the options on offer feeling similar to each other. Others asked for outfit presets, full rotation on placed items, and a hair-dye option separate from the gradient.

Monitor and switching bugs. A reviewer reported characters randomly switching monitors while typing, and asked for the key that triggers it to be rebindable. The broader multi-monitor transparency problem has its own page.

The keystroke counter. Multiple reviewers asked for a way to disable it, and one asked the developer to clarify whether it counts key presses or key identity. One review about the privacy worry was marked helpful by fifteen people and later amended after the author withdrew the strongest wording.

Characters that cannot act alone. A reviewer asked for characters to walk up to each other, talk, argue, dance or interact without being positioned by hand. That is a feature request rather than a bug.

Why this audience adopted it so fast

The reviews mention original-character creators and roleplayers, including several players with large casts of characters from other games. For that audience the appeal is obvious: a character they already designed can be animated, dressed and left on their desktop.

Comments on the official trailer point the same way, with players describing the game spreading through roleplay communities within days.

How to read the reviews yourself

  1. Open the demo store page and scroll to the review section.
  2. Filter by language, because the localisation complaints are language-specific and the praise is not.
  3. Sort by most recent to see whether a complaint has already been fixed.
  4. Check playtime, but remember that an idle game accumulates hours while the player is not present.
